Message # 020: I don't know about you, but I learned a long time ago that it's not a good idea to use a new razor on the same day that I have an important meeting. You know how it is when you use a new razor -- and hopefully women can relate to this too -- the chance of getting nicked and cut is higher. Razors seem to have a 'best used' date. Before that date, the blade is too new and sharp, while after that date it starts to get dull. That's why I make sure I use my new razor once or twice if I know I have an important meeting coming up. It's the same with your Essential Message. But a few weeks ago, I went to an important networking event. It was much too early in the morning for my liking, and I had just started a new razor. I also decided to try a new way of introducing myself. Bad idea -- and that's when I realized how Essential Messages are like razors. Yes, experiment with your Essential Message and always be ready to try new Impact Statements and Provocative Questions... but make sure you try the really new ones in less risky settings. If you want to avoid getting nicked or cut by your Essential Message at an important networking event or meeting, remember your razor. Not too sharp. Not too dull. Just right.
