Serious Wood
Caution. Too many New Year's resolutions may be hazardous to your business.
No doubt you've heard countless commercials and impassioned pitches in the past week to encourage you to create a list of personal and professional goals to accomplish in 2005. Well, I'm here to provide you with some much needed counterbalance.
One thing I have learned from personal experience as well as from leading Strategic Coach Goal Cultivator Groups is that it's easy to have too many goals. And what happens is that you accomplish none -- no matter how measurable and achievable they might be.
Golfers talk about putting serious 'wood' or serious 'club' behind the ball. (What did you think it meant?) And you can only do that when you put all your focus on the ball that's in front of you.
A case in point is this e-newsletter. When I first launched E-ssential Messages about a year ago, it was one of several initiatives -- and only a handful of people subscribed each month. When I finally decided to put serious wood behind this one initiative, however, I consciously and subconsciously developed strategies -- including an Essential Message focused on the newsletter itself -- readership grew to over 1,200 people in over 20 countries. (And growing...)
In 2005, my intention is to put serious wood behind the Essential Message Bull Pen -- and build it into the most useful and innovative coaching program of its kind.
